This still life was arranged for Slobodkina’s painting class and was painted by most of her students. One student asked for Slobodkina’s take, and she quickly painted the picture. The student bought Slobodkina’s canvas on the spot. Later, after the class adjourned, Slobodkina felt lonely for the sold piece and painted this version for keeps.
