Slobodkina was a costume enthusiast. (Her favorite holiday was Halloween.) She was well known in the inner circle of her family and friends as the “go-to’ creative fabricator for all costume needs. Slobodkina called herself “La Belle Helene” when she wore this Greek costume design she created from recycled fabric remnants for the North Shore Community Art Center Ball in the 1950s.
